The short answer
If the slab is structurally sound, the most common option in Florida is a pool deck coating system: the deck is repaired and resurfaced with a textured, UV-stable finish, at about $6 to $14 per square foot, estimated. If the surface only looks tired, cleaning and sealing may be enough. If the slab is broken, sunken or spalled across most of its area, replacement is the honest answer.
Option 1: clean and seal
A deep clean and a sealer protect the concrete against water, stains and salt and can refresh its look. It does not fix cracks, change the color much or add much grip. It fits decks in good condition that just need protection. See concrete sealing.
Option 2: resurface with a coating system
This is the option for decks with cracks, faded paint or a surface that is too slippery. The system goes through inspection, mechanical preparation, removal of old coatings, crack and joint repair, primer where needed, the coating layers and a UV-stable, slip-resistant finish. It changes the color, adds texture and gives the deck years of use without demolition. Estimated range: $6 to $14 per square foot. See pool deck coating.
Option 3: pavers over the existing deck
Pavers can be laid over an existing slab in some cases, or after removing it. They change the look completely, but they add height at doors and the pool edge, which has to be checked, and they need their own base and drainage. We do not install pavers, so if that is the look you want, a paver contractor is the right call.
Option 4: replace the slab
When the concrete is broken, sunken or badly spalled across most of the deck, a coating only hides the problem for a while. Replacement costs more and takes longer, but it is the right option when the structure is failing.

What matters in Florida
Sun, chlorine or salt water, rain and bare feet. Whatever option you choose, the surface should resist UV and give grip when wet. A smooth, glossy finish around a pool is not an option.
