The short answer
Resurfacing a pool deck in Florida with a coating runs about $6 to $14 per square foot, estimated, depending on the system and the condition of the deck. The final price depends on the size of the area, the condition of the concrete, the cracks and repairs it needs, old coatings that have to come off, the system and its finish, and access to the area. It requires an on-site evaluation and a quote.
What you are paying for
A pool deck coating is not a coat of paint. A system that lasts goes through these steps:
- Inspection of the deck, the cracks, the drainage and the old surface.
- Mechanical preparation, and removal of old coatings that are no longer bonded.
- Repair of cracks, joints and holes.
- Primer where the system calls for it.
- The coating itself, in the layers the system requires.
- A UV-stable finish with a slip-resistant texture, because the surface is in full sun and gets wet.
The preparation is the part you cannot see, and it is what decides whether the new surface peels in two summers.
What moves the price
- Size. Larger decks usually lower the price per square foot.
- Condition. Cracks, spalling, hollow spots and uneven slabs take more repair work.
- Old coatings. Paint or failed coatings have to be removed before anything new goes on.
- The system. Texture, color and the type of topcoat change the range.
- Access. Narrow side yards, screened enclosures and occupied condo pool areas take more planning.
Florida-specific factors
Pool decks here take strong UV every day, chlorine or salt water from the pool, rain and heat. A surface without a UV-stable finish can fade or amber, and a smooth, glossy finish is slippery around water. That is why the finish is not the place to cut cost.
Resurfacing or replacing?
If the slab is structurally sound, resurfacing is almost always the lower-cost option: the deck is repaired and coated, not demolished. Replacement makes sense when the slab is broken, sunken or badly spalled across most of its area. We tell you which one your deck needs after seeing it.
How to compare quotes
Before comparing totals, check that each quote says how the surface will be prepared, which repairs are included, which system and how many coats, what the finish is and whether it is slip-resistant, and what the warranty covers.
